This is an introductory course to the Chinese civilization. It will discuss how important cultural developments and the Chinese language have shaped Chinese ways of life throughout the ages. This includes the interaction with other civilizations in Asia and globally. Students will acquire cultural and intercultural competence in a Chinese context.
Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO)
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Identify and describe some of the key features of Chinese culture, language, and thought;
2. Identify and appreciate the impact of Chinese cultural traditions on contemporary Chinese society;
3. Outline some of the significant mutual influences between Chinese languages and culture and other languages and cultures.
