The University of Macau (UM) offers the following scholarships to excellent undergraduate students upon admission.  Students are not required to apply for these scholarships.  The University will identify qualified new students and inform the selected students when they are admitted.  Continuation of these scholarships is generally granted based on student’s yearly academic performance.

Outgoing exchange students who were admitted with the above scholarships are advised to read the below policy for the requirements to continue their scholarships for the next academic year.

For current students, UM offers the University of Macau Scholarship for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Programmes” (STEM Scholarship) to attract outstanding local students to pursue studies in programmes related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

Besides the scholarships awarded by UM, there are some more scholarships provided by individual or entrepreneurial donors that are open to students for application.  Please visit the Student Affairs Office for details.

Principals’ Recommended Admission Scholarship

Principals’ Recommended Admission Scholarship is a scholarship offered to students admitted through the “Principals’ Recommended Admission Scheme” with outstanding performance.

There are three types of Principals’ Recommended Admission Scholarship, namely “University of Macau Grand Lotus Scholarship”, “University of Macau Golden Lotus Scholarship”, and “University of Macau Silver Lotus Scholarship”.  Recipients of one of these scholarships will be granted half to full tuition fee waiver, and/or Residential College (RC) fee waiver, and/or additional scholarship subject to the type of scholarship being granted in the first year of study.  Students can continue their scholarship during the normal study period upon fulfilment of the particular academic and RC requirements stated in the scholarship scheme.

For students admitted through the “Principals’ Recommended Admission Scheme”, if they are not granted any of the above lotus scholarships, they will be granted “University of Macau First Year Scholarship”.  This scholarship provides a one-off tuition fee waiver of MOP5,000 with no continuation.

University of Macau Golden Lotus Scholarship for Admission Examination

University of Macau Golden Lotus Scholarship for Admission Examination is a scholarship offered to candidates with outstanding performance in the admission examination.

Scholarship recipients will be granted full tuition fee waiver.  Students can continue their scholarship during the normal study period upon fulfilment of the particular academic and RC requirements stated in the scholarship scheme.

University of Macau Full Scholarship for Undergraduate Students

UM offers “University of Macau Full Scholarship” to undergraduate students from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan region with outstanding performance, with some places reserved for students from Greater Bay Area.  Scholarship recipients will be granted full tuition fee and Residential College (RC) fee waiver in their first year of study.   Students can continue their scholarship during the normal study period upon gaining at least 24 credits in an academic year, achieving a Year GPA of 3.3 or above, and fulfiling the RC requirements.

China Green Assistantship

UM offers “China Green Assistantship” to Mainland China undergraduate students who come from remote areas of China to pursue studies in Macao. Scholarship recipients are recommended by the Chinese Education Association and China Green Foundation under China Green Action with excellent college entrance examination result. Scholarship recipients will be granted full tuition fee and Residential College (RC) fee waiver, 10-month living subsidy of MOP3,000 per month and an initial settlement grant to be borne by UM at MOP3,000 upon students’ arrival at the university in their first year of study. Students can continue their scholarship during the normal study period upon gaining at least 24 credits in an academic year, achieving a Year GPA of 2.3 or above, and fulfiling the RC requirements.

Applicants must guarantee that the information given in the application form is TRUE. The University of Macau reserves the rights to terminate an application, admission or study at any time if :
any information given in his/her application form is found later to be untrue and/or incorrect;
an applicant offered with admission is found to have violated any of the regulations of the University of Macau or misconduct behavior.
Should such cases occur, any fees paid will not be refunded and all documents submitted will not be returned.

University of Macau Scholarship for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Programmes

The “University of Macau Scholarship for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Programmes” (STEM Scholarship) was established by the UM to attract outstanding local students to pursue studies in programmes related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

STEM disciplines include :

  • Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Electromechanical Engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Physics and Chemistry
  • Applied Materials
  • Internet of Things
  • Microelectronics
  • Data Science
  • Artificial Intelligence and Robotics
  • Financial Technology and E-Commence Technology

    There are two types of scholarships offered to Bachelor’s Degree Programmes and please find the following details:

    • STEM scholarship is applicable to Macao students who are admitted to Bachelor’s Degree Programmes in the STEM disciplines.
    • Eligible candidates will be recommended by the academic units. No scholarship application is required.
    STEM scholarship Eligibility Content
    Type A
    • Year 2 students with outstanding academic performance of the first academic year in the UM.
    • Scholarship awardees will be selected based on the academic performance of the 1st academic year.
    • One-off cash payment in the 2nd year of the Bachelor’s Degree Programmes.
    Type B
    • Year 2 to 4 students who participate in final year/graduation/research project or undertake an internship during the prescribed year of study.
    • Scholarship will be granted by cash allowance.
    • Scholarship awardees who are unable to complete or withdraw from the prescribed final year/graduation/research project or internship, their scholarship should be returned.

    Notes:

    • The STEM scholarship is compatible with other types of scholarships, academic awards and allowances offered by the UM.
    • Students who are awarded Type A scholarship at the 2nd year of study may also be eligible for Type B scholarship during their subsequent year of study.
