The GE course, “Ethics, Values, Law and Society” is a compulsory course for all undergraduate students under the 2017/2018 curriculum model.  It will be co-offered by the 3 faculties, FAH, FBA and FLL and consist of 3 core components.  Each core component carries one credit and will take one-third of the course duration.

  • GESB1001 – Applied Ethics (offered by FBA-MMI – 1 credit)
  • GESB1002 – Foundations of Moral Values (offered by FAH-PHIL – 1 credit)
  • GESB1003 – Law and Society (offered by FLL – 1 credit)

Course Arrangement

As illustrated in the example below, each 1-credit course (GESB1001/1002/1003) will have 4.5 weeks (9 lectures of 1.5 hours each) of classes and 1 in-class exam (1.5 hours).  (9 lectures + 1 exam) x 3 = 30 classes

Rules for Course Enrolment

  1. Students are required to enrol in the whole course “Ethics, Values, Law and Society“.  In other words, students cannot enrol in only one or two of the 1-credit course (GESB1001/1002/1003).
  2. Students are required to enrol in the same section of each 1-credit course (GESB1001/1002/1003), even if they do not have any schedule conflict.  For example, students cannot enrol in section 001 of GESB1001, section 002 of GESB1002 and section 003 of GESB1003 even if there is no schedule conflict.
  3. In case students fail to complete any of the 1-credit course(s), they will be required to complete the 1-credit course(s) concerned in a batch before graduation.
  4. Students will gain the credit and GPA upon successfully completion of each 1-credit course.
  5. Students will not be allowed to swap or add-in any of the 1-credit course (GESB1001/1002/1003) after class commencement.
  6. After class add/drop period, students will be allowed to withdraw each 1-credit course until the first 7th lecture.
