UM has progressed in leaps and bounds in recent years, thanks to the support of the central government, the Macao SAR government, and all sectors of society. Both the current president, Xi Jinping, and the former president, Hu Jintao, have visited UM and given important instructions for the university’s future development. In 2018, President Xi replied to a joint letter from UM and several other higher education institutions in Macao, instructing them to cultivate more patriotic and Macao-loving talent and create more scientific and technological achievements.
Today’s UM is on the threshold of a new era. It will continue to uphold the five virtues listed in the university motto, namely humanity, integrity, propriety, wisdom, and sincerity, to make further improvements and bring about innovation. As a university firmly rooted in Macao, UM strives to participate in the development of the GBA, integrate itself into national development, and reach out to the world. UM aims to become an internationally recognised university of excellence through quality student-centred education, internationally impactful research, and high-quality community services.
