Year Level: 1

This course introduces students to the interface between language and globalisation with special reference to the expansion of English across the world (especially within Asia) in the current era of globalisation. Students will develop an understanding of historical, economic, political and socio-cultural factors that have influenced the development of English as a global language. They will also acquire basic knowledge of how the forms, meanings and functions of the English language are appropriated and localized, including theoretical frameworks and analytical approaches.
