The University of Macau has the mission of cultivating talents to meet the needs of local community.  To recruit local talented students for the academic year 2023/2024, the University has devised a “Preferential Admission Scheme” for Admission Examination candidates.  Applicants with listed qualifications may receive bonus of 20 to 50 marks added to the results of the Admission Examination. Details of the scheme are listed in the following:

1. Application Qualification Category

1.1 Academic Awards (Science and Technology related)

Applicants with any of the following awards:

h. Individual Award(s) of the Macao Secondary Schools Competition in Mathematics
i. Award of Macao Communications Museum Electronic Device Construction Competition (senior secondary school category)
j. Award of Macau High School Fun Science Competition (senior secondary school category)
k. Award of CEM Solar Model Car Race (senior secondary school category)
l. First/Second/Third prize in the BOC STEM Talent Challenge
1.2 Academic Awards (Arts related)

Applicants with any of the following awards/qualifications:

e. Top 3 of other International Competitions
Remark: Invitational tournaments, Tryouts, Testing or Exhibition matches of above-mentioned item c to e are not applicable to the Preferential Admission Scheme.
1.4 Musicianship

Students of musical talents (restricted to musical instruments only) may apply for the Scheme.  Applicants should submit related award certificates, in addition to a video of solo performance of around 5 minutes.  Award types can be classified in the following:

c. Achievement shown from the practical examinations included in the syllabus of China Central Conservatory of Music. Certificate of Grade 6 or above.
d. Proof to show participation in performance (concerts, contests, etc.) held by international or regional organizations. During the last three years of secondary school study
e. Proof to show participation in performance (concerts, contests, etc.) held by the Macao Cultural Affairs Bureau, Macau Band Directors Association or any other governmental institutions.
1.5 Qualifications of Whole Person Development

Applicants with any of the following qualifications:

Evaluation of qualifications and bonus marks to be granted will be considered by the University’s assessment panel of the “Preferential Admission Scheme”.
e. Achievement shown from the graded examinations included in the syllabus of Beijing Dance Academy Chinese Dance Graded Exams.  Certificate of a Grade 7 or above. No restriction
f. Achievement shown from the graded examinations included in the syllabus of RAD (Royal Academy of Dance). Certificate of a Grade 5 or above.
g. Achievement shown from the graded examinations included in the syllabus of CSTD (Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing). Certificate of Grade 6 or above.

2. Application Qualification and Procedures

2.1 Applicants applying for the “Preferential Admission Scheme” must be current Form 6/Senior Middle 3/Grade 12 students of Macao secondary schools and sit for Admission Examination of the University of Macau. They also have to successfully complete all the application procedures within the application period of Admission Examination (03-17/01/2024). Applicants are advised to read the “Online Application Guide for Preferential Admission Scheme” for application procedures first before submitting online application.
2.2 Applicants should login to the “Online Application System for Preferential Admission Scheme” (available at https://reg.um.edu.mo/) to submit the application form and upload the certificates/testimonials/performance video (the performance video part applicable only to Musicianship applicants) of awards or qualifications onto the application system. Application Period for “Preferential Admission Scheme” is 15 – 31/01/2024. Applicants should submit the application through the online system and do not need to submit any paper application or documents to the Registry.
2.3 Each applicant can submit one online application only. Applicants can apply for a maximum of 10 items of your awards/qualifications, across all categories, via the online application system.
2.4 Applicants must scan and upload the certificates of awards/qualifications to the Online Application System. All submitted documents must be in A4 size, PDF format and the file size should not be greater than 5MB. Applicants with more than one award/qualification in the same category should scan all certificates continuously in black & white colour format and save them in a single PDF file (less than 5MB) and upload the file to the relevant field.
2.5 If applying for Musicianship, the applicant should also produce and upload, in addition to necessary certificates, a video of his/her solo performance in the following format:
2.5.1 Only one single music performance is required;
2.5.2 The applicant should have a simple introduction of his/her name, application number (format: APC4XXXXX) and the name of the music performance with a clear shot of the face before the presentation begins; Camera changing shots from self-introduction to end of performance and editing are not allowed in the production of video as well as a clear shot of the hand movements when playing musical instruments;
2.5.3 The duration of each musical instrument performance should not exceed 5 minutes;
2.5.4 The file size should not be greater than 500MB;
2.5.5 The video format must be played in Windows Media. Should the video be not played, the performance can be regarded as invalid and no extra marks will be granted.
2.6 Applicants who possess talents not listed in the scheme should also upload the competition rules and list of awardees concerned (rather than the testimonial only). Otherwise, the application will not be processed.
2.7 Applicants can update any information/files whether or not the applicant has submitted his/her application during the application period. However, further revision cannot be made after 23:59 on 31/01/2024.
2.8 If the applicant fails to complete the application for Admission Examination, fails to complete the application information or upload required supporting documents (or not readable)/videos in the online application system of “Preferential Admission Scheme” by the application deadline, the application will not be processed.
2.9 Results of the Preferential Admission Scheme will be released together with the admission results by the University in early May 2024.

3. Assessment

3.1 Upon verification and assessment by the University of Macau, applicants with any of the above qualifications may receive a bonus of 20 to 50 marks added to the results of all Admission Examination subjects required for the applied programmes (if an applicant will be granted with 40 marks for a particular talent upon assessment, he/she will receive this bonus mark onto the result of three required subjects for the applied programmes, attaining to a total of 120 bonus marks towards the total score).
3.2 Total bonus marks of single category such as “Academic Awards (Science and Technology related) / Academic Awards (Arts related) / Sports Awards / Musicianship / Qualifications of Whole Person Development” to be granted should not exceed 60. Nevertheless, there is no upper limit of total bonus scores to be granted across different categories.
3.3 Applicants may not received any bonus marks if the information submitted does not meet the qualification requirements.

4. Statements and Responsibilities

4.1 Candidates offered admission to the University of Macau must present the originals of related awards or qualifications to the Registry of the University within the specified period. Otherwise, applicants will be disqualified from the admission to the University. The University also reserves the right to verify the submitted documents with related institutions.
4.2 Applicants must guarantee that the information given in the application form is TRUE. The University of Macau reserves the right to terminate the application/admission or study at any time if any UNTRUE information is found later. Should such a case occur, neither fees nor documents submitted will be refunded and returned and the applicant should bear all the consequent responsibilities.
4.3 During the study at the University, all talented students have the obligations to participate in the related activities and competitions organized by the University or outside parties, so that they can continue to develop the skills and foster a diversified learning environment inside the University.
